ARTIST & ENTREPRENEUR CHERRY TIEN: FROM PAINTING TO ONE-OF-A-KIND CERAMIC ART

After only one year of exploring ceramic art, Vietnamese artist and entrepreneur Cherry Tien was selected by a professional judging panel to participate in the exhibition “REPORT ON THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE 2026 ART CAMP & NEW ARTWORKS,” held at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts.

Taking place from August 25 to September 3, 2026, the exhibition brings together artworks created through artistic experimentation, creative practice, and the exploration of new artistic languages. It also provides an opportunity for artists to connect with the public and share their perspectives on contemporary art and life.

For Cherry Tien, participating in this exhibition marks a meaningful milestone—particularly because her journey into ceramic art began only about one year ago.

From Brushstrokes to Clay

With a background in painting and years of experience in creative fields, Cherry Tien entered the world of ceramics with the curiosity of an artist seeking new possibilities.

While painting allows an artist to express ideas through color, composition, lines, and light on a two-dimensional surface, ceramics opens up another dimension—where clay, water, glaze, fire, and time all become part of the creative process.

For Cherry Tien, ceramics is not simply about learning a new craft. It is a way of discovering a new artistic language.

She began exploring form, proportion, clay, surface treatment, glazing techniques, and the unpredictable transformations that occur during firing. Through continuous experimentation, she gradually developed her own approach: creating artworks that are not only visually distinctive but also carry a strong sense of individuality and originality.

One Year of Experimentation and Discovery

One year may seem like a short period for an artist to explore a new medium and begin developing a personal artistic language.

For Cherry Tien, however, it has been a year of continuous experimentation.

Rather than focusing on mass production, she creates one-of-a-kind ceramic artworks. Each piece evolves through a process of experimentation—from the initial concept and form-making to surface treatment, glazing, and firing.

One of the defining characteristics of her ceramic practice is the way she brings the mindset of a painter into three-dimensional space.

A vessel is no longer simply an object. A ceramic form becomes a composition. Its curves, proportions, surface, texture, and glaze work together much like brushstrokes on a painting.

As a result, every finished piece carries its own character and becomes a unique expression of the creative process.

Where Painting Meets Ceramics

Cherry Tien’s transition from painting to ceramics can be seen as a natural continuation of her artistic journey.

She moves from lines on a flat surface to forms that exist in space. From the controlled use of color in painting, she discovers the unpredictable beauty of ceramic glazes. And from working with a brush, she enters a world where fire becomes an active part of the artwork’s creation.

This is one of the unique qualities of ceramics.

An artist can carefully control the form, material, and many technical aspects of a piece, yet the interaction between glaze and fire can never be predicted completely. Each firing can reveal subtle variations and unexpected effects.

For Cherry Tien, these unexpected elements are not imperfections to be avoided. They can become an essential part of the artwork’s character and soul.

A Milestone at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts

After approximately one year of working with ceramics, Cherry Tien was evaluated and selected by the professional judging panel to participate in “REPORT ON THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE 2026 ART CAMP & NEW ARTWORKS.”

The exhibition is held at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts, 97A Pho Duc Chinh Street, Ben Thanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, from August 25 to September 3, 2026.

For the artist, this is an important milestone. From her early experiments with clay and fire, her ceramic works now have the opportunity to be presented in a professional fine arts environment and introduced to audiences who appreciate contemporary art.

For Cherry Tien, the recognition is not simply a reflection of the past year. It is also an encouragement to continue researching, experimenting, and developing her own artistic voice.

Where Art and Entrepreneurship Meet

Alongside her artistic practice, Cherry Tien is also an entrepreneur working in the fields of creativity, branding, and marketing.

Her experience in business has given her a broader perspective on art—not only as an aesthetic experience, but also as a form of storytelling, cultural expression, personal identity, and collectible value.

At the same time, art gives her the freedom to move beyond commercial boundaries, experiment with new ideas, and create from curiosity and intuition.

Her two identities—artist and entrepreneur—therefore meet at one essential point: creativity.

Cherry Tien is not simply interested in creating beautiful objects. She aims to create works with character, meaning, and a distinctive artistic identity.

A New Chapter in Her Artistic Journey

What makes Cherry Tien’s one-year ceramic journey remarkable is not simply how many works she has created, but how she has chosen to approach a completely new medium.

From painting to ceramics, from two-dimensional surfaces to three-dimensional forms, and from color to glaze and fire, she continues to expand the boundaries of her creative practice.

Her one-of-a-kind ceramic artworks represent a new chapter in Cherry Tien’s artistic journey—where the experience of a painter meets the unpredictable nature of clay and fire, creating forms that cannot be completely replicated.

Being selected for an exhibition at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts after only one year of ceramic practice may be an important milestone, but it is perhaps only the beginning.

The exhibition “REPORT ON THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE 2026 ART CAMP & NEW ARTWORKS” takes place from August 25 to September 3, 2026, at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts.

For Cherry Tien, it is an opportunity to introduce her early ceramic works to the public and share a journey that has only just begun—but already opens the door to many new possibilities.

From brushstrokes to clay.
From clay to fire.
And from fire, a new artistic language begins to emerge.
